Financial Literacy Session in Friends' School Kamusinga – Kimilili, Kenya

In line with its commitment to nurturing financially empowered communities, Octagon Africa Foundation recently visited Kamusinga High School to promote financial literacy among students while reaffirming its dedication to supporting quality education.

The engagement brought together students, teachers and Foundation representatives for an interactive financial literacy session designed to equip learners with practical life skills that extend beyond the classroom. Students were taken through key topics including budgeting, the importance of saving, responsible financial decision-making, goal setting and cultivating healthy money habits from an early age.

The Foundation believes that financial literacy is an essential life skill that empowers young people to make informed decisions, build resilience and prepare for a financially secure future. By introducing these concepts during the formative years, students are better positioned to become responsible citizens, entrepreneurs, professionals and leaders.

As part of the visit, Octagon Africa Foundation presented a cheque worth KES 225,000 to Kamusinga High School in support of the school’s educational initiatives and financial literacy books to the students. The contribution underscores the Foundation’s commitment to partnering with learning institutions to create an enabling environment where students can thrive academically and personally.

Speaking during the event, Foundation representatives emphasized that investing in education goes beyond infrastructure and learning resources but it also involves equipping learners with practical financial knowledge that will serve them throughout their lives.

The school’s administration expressed sincere appreciation for the generous support, noting that the donation would contribute significantly towards enhancing the learning environment while the financial literacy programme had inspired students to begin thinking differently about money, savings and long-term financial planning.

The visit to Kamusinga High School reflects Octagon Africa Foundation’s broader vision of fostering financially literate communities by integrating financial education into schools and empowering the next generation with the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to make sound financial decisions.

Through strategic partnerships with educational institutions, the Foundation continues to champion initiatives that transform lives by combining financial education with meaningful community support, creating lasting impact for learners across Kenya.
